Are you the right person for the job?

  • A qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent) with relevant legal credentials
  • Proven experience in legal roles

What will your role look like?

As the Head of Legal, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting commercial, sales, and other key stakeholders with any legal and contractual requirements arising during the procurement and tendering process for high-value local authority and Home Office contracts.
  • Contracts management - auditing and reviewing contacts with local authorities and Home Office to ensure legal and operational compliance across the company.
  • Assisting with commercial negotiations and legal drafting of leases for procurement of properties from landlords. This will include contract review and negotiation, providing solutions to mitigate risks, issuing mark-ups, attending and contributing on negotiation calls with landlords and other stakeholders.
  • Providing legal advice to the general office function (including IT). This will include reviewing and negotiating major contracts.
  • Litigation function - managing disputes and dealing with other legal issues as they arise, including pre-action letters, claim forms, proceedings and settlements. Instructing solicitors and counsel as appropriate.
  • Managing landlord tenant disputes; lease disputes.
  • Overseeing the property evictions and possessions proceedings process in the Company.
  • Providing ad hoc legal advice wherever required within the business, this could include managing / advising on disputes, intellectual property, data protection, information technology etc.
  • Renewing Company insurances and reviewing policies and practices regularly to ensure risks are covered; notifying insurance company in relation to potential claims.
  • Renewing buildings insurances for properties owned by the Company, ensuring adequate insurance cover at all times.
  • Ensuring the Company obligations in relation to Council Tax, planning law and HMO licences are met.
  • Developing strong partnerships and becoming a trusted advisor within all teams and throughout the business, from admin and finance functions through to Directors.
  • Managing external lawyers and other professional advisers where necessary, with conscious effort to maximise value and control cost from any such appointments.
  • Helping to promote legal good practice and awareness throughout the business, both through the quality and clarity of advice you provide and delivering targeted training on legal, risk and compliance topics.
